JOCELINE
WICKHAM

I studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London in the 1970s and I have been painting ever since. I live and work in Norwich.

I concentrate on small Still Life paintings in oil (19 x 24 centimetres would be a typical size)

I am interested in looking closely at and paying attention to the beauty and strangeness of ordinary things, the things I see around me, things that that I may be very familiar with as well as objects that catch my attention when I am out and about; maybe in other people’s houses. I try and organise them carefully so that some sort of transformation takes place. Sometimes I incorporate postcard portraits or landscape photos into the composition so the painting is no longer a straightforward Still Life, maybe there is something else going on as well. I hope that my paintings are never just a realistic portrayal of their subject matter and that they are more than the sum of their parts.

I am interested in doing commissions, especially if these incorporate objects that belong to and have meaning and significance to the client.

I have exhibited my work widely both in London galleries, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and many galleries in East Anglia. In 2015 I had a two woman show with Polly Cruse at the Fairhurst Gallery in Norwich and a solo show at Gallery Last in Zurich, Switzerland.

This year, 2018 I have work in “20 into 18” at the Theatre Royal Norwich, “Inheritance” at the Castle Museum Norwich and will be showing with Norfolk by Design at Houghton Hall. I am also taking part in Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios and will have work in a Royal Academy East Anglian Group show at the Halesworth Gallery in July.

I am an active member of the Norwich 20 Group www.norwich20group.co.uk and enjoy taking part in the Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios Scheme www.nnopenstudios.org.uk
